The aroma of this ruby-red Spirithouse Pinot Noir races out of the glass in a concentrated line of elements which then circle and complex into a whopping-great nose full of pleasure. Look for fruit of blackberries, dried Huckleberries and dark cherry, followed by spice of Campari-like black licorice and whole clove. This meaty fruit bomb is then wrapped around a center of the smell one can get from volcanic stones like granite or basalt. The flavors are signature sweet and silky, with big, rounded tannins complemented by a concentrated effort by dark chocolate, vanilla, and dark black fruit/blueberry and a sensuous fresh Manila mango cream in the middle. This wine has the fruit of our 98 vintage, but has an mineral, edginess unique to the 2000 vintage. This is one of the very most exciting wines yet to come from Argyle’s Pinot Noir program.

The aroma of this Spirithouse Chardonnay is a heady fruit swirl of ripe melon, starfruit-citrus, pear, white peach and mango, which seem to leap out of the glass! The fruit aromas are complimented with vanilla, roasted hazelnut, and orange-citrus crème. The thread of flavor and structure is SEAMLESS. Honeysuckle, peach, casaba melon, tropical fruit salad and Satsuma plum are complexed by honey-graham, roasted hazelnut, and vanilla-scented toasted oak. Rich creamy fruit-sweet viscosity sandwiches a mineral beam of acidity, lending credibility for the prediction that this wine may well outlive us all if properly cellared.

Crafted entirely from the high elevation slopes of the Knudsen Vineyard, Spirithouse Pinot Noir requires a long, well-balanced growing season to achieve its distinctive power and elegance. Grown at elevations between 600 and 700 feet, this Pinot Noir rides the line of red clay mineral edge and voluptuous depth. Elegant red cherry, wispy floral, and savory spice, the middle palate is based in silkiness and youthful acidity. Framed around delicately firm tannins, the length is long and pure, begging for at least a decade of cellaring for her to truly open up. We recommend a companion dish: tea-smoked duck.

This year's Spirithouse Chardonnay comes from the graceful slopes of Dundee’s Knudsen Vineyard. Sitting at 700 feet elevation, this block consists of some of Oregon's first high density plantings of Dijon Clone Chardonnay. Spirithouse Chardonnay is fully barrel fermented and malo-lactic finished to frame the taut acidity of the Dundee Hills. Finely poised and elegant, yet with an underlying bead of salty, mineral edge, it cries out for Oregon Dungeness Crab. The flinty, melon austerity is countered with supple, roasted cashew and creamy texture, while the length is pure, vibratious nervosity. Lay this baby down for 10-plus years.
